William Basinski

William Basinski started developing his own unique language in the late 1970s, using tape loops and old reel to reel tape decks. Nurturing a unique melancholic, meditative style by experimenting with short loop melodies that when played against themselves create feedback loops, Basinski imbued his works with a sonic beauty rarely heard in electronic music. He has developed this technique across the last three decades, working tirelessly on numerous albums and projects. The Disintegration Loops, arguably his magnum opus, has been hailed as one of the great compositions of ambient music.
