Join us to explore a unique miniature world created by two young friends in the early 1900s. Elisabeth and Margaret lived next door to each other in Edmonton, North London, and created their own fantasy kingdom called Dollyland. Ruled by dolls, the kingdom incorporated toys, pets and real-life family members, all woven into a series of stories and artworks. We’ll explore the miniature magazines and beautiful watercolours created by Elisabeth, who went on to become a member of the Royal Miniature Painters Society and a contributor to the famous Queen Mary’s dolls’ house. Museum of Childhood curator Susan Gardner will be in conversation with her colleague Vicky Garrington, one of our History Curators, in this informal exploration of creativity and imagination. Why not make a day of it at Lauriston and have some lunch at Mimi’s café on-site after your lecture experience?
