Details

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is without a doubt one of the finest in the world and we are delighted to present a unique and exclusive series of fantastic recitals, given by brilliant soloists from this famous ensemble.

Philip Higham, cello John Cameron, piano

Hans Gal: Cello Sonata op 89 (1952) Clara Schumann: 3 Romances op 22 Robert Schumann: Violin Sonata no. 2 op 121

SCO principal cellist celebrates a great love story between two marvellous musicians. The great romantic composer Robert Schumann fell in love with the brilliant young pianist Clara Wieck and dedicated much of his music to her. She was a terrific composer in her own right. Hans Gal fled Germany in 1938 and ended up in Edinburgh. His cello sonata is utterly charming.
