Composer Bill Whelan’s memoir_The Road to Riverdance_ (Lilliput Press) is not only a chronicle of a hugely successful musical career, from childhood through to that Eurovision performance that changed everything, but also a deeply human reflection on the personal journey experienced by the composer of Riverdance and the personal and professional relationships forged along the way.

Bill Whelan has composed music extensively for theatre, film and orchestra. He won Best Musical Show album at the 1997 Grammy Awards for Riverdance. His music for film includes scores for Dancing At Lughansa, Some Mother’s Son and Lamb with Liam Neeson.

His orchestral works include The Seville Suite ― specially commissioned for Ireland’s participation in Expo ’92 ―The Spirit Of Mayo, _The Connemara Suite _and _Linen & Lace _and as a studio producer he has worked with U2, Van Morrison and Kate Bush.

Join us for an engaging evening of discussion and music as the man who put an indelible mark on Irish music and dance talks about his life with broadcaster John Toal.

To close the show Bill (piano) will be joined by well-known traditional Irish musicians Zoe Conway (fiddle, vocals) and John McIntyre (guitar), who so captivated the audience in The Helicon when they performed here last year.
