CSO is delighted to be returning to Cheltenham Town Hall to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth in Cheltenham of Gustav Holst with a special performance of the entire Planets Suite. This ever popular work that emerged from the mind of our local hero has, over the years, become a firm favourite with audiences the world over. To be able to hear it performed in Holst's home town is surely a special treat not to be missed.

As a prelude to that treat, we will be performing other works that link to Holst's in source, sound or spirit. The concert will start with a spine-tingling Fanfare for the Common Man that will certainly set the scene for the evening. We'll continue with a more gentle interlude of Folk Songs from Somerset, penned by Holst, lost in the mists of time and redisovered in New Zealand only a few years ago. To conclude the introduction to this spectacular show, we'll present The Sorcerer's Apprentice, that must certainly have been an influence on Holst himself. See if you can spot the connection...
