Details

The Pilgrim Play charts the journey of Stink, a medieval outcast and a fool, who - struggling to find love, fleeing from death and all the while being moo’d upon by cows - faces the ultimate question; can he become our most unlikely hero?

In the spring of 2024, theatre-maker Chris New will set off on foot from Land’s End, beginning a journey of over 1000 miles across the four nations of the United Kingdom, to the northernmost tip of Scotland, bringing his Pilgrim Plays to each community he meets en route.

Unapologetically earthy, viscerally felt and joyously performed - and with costumes created by two-time Bafta and six-time Emmy Award winning 'Game of Thrones' costume designer Michele Clapton - the plays touch upon the fundamental forces that live within us.

During their try-out runs and during their development at the National Theatre’s Studio, they have mesmerised audiences - “Not a wasted word, nor a wasted gesture. Brilliant.”
