Details

The London Vocal Project (LVP) occupies a unique place in the landscape of the U.K. music scene. Formed over fifteen years ago by a dedicated group of singers from the Guildhall School of Music in London, LVP rapidly began to attract students and alumni from other colleges and before long a vibrant vocal community was born with a reputation for fresh and adventurous music making. In 2010 a concert with Bobby McFerrin (featuring music from his VOCAbuLarieS album) led to further collaborations; Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine at the London Jazz Festival, an album of poetry settings with Kenny Wheeler and Norma Winstone OBE, a project with the great Jazz lyricist Jon Hendricks resulting in a Quincy Jones sponsored premiere in New York of the Vocalese masterpiece ‘Miles Ahead’. With two new albums mixed and ready for mastering - a live album of James Taylor’s music at the PizzaExpress and an album with Dave Holland and Norma Winstone OBE of Kenny Wheeler’s last poetry settings - the future looks bright for LVP as it continues to maintain a varied and challenging output.
