Details

Now a firm favourite with Hallé audiences, Maxime Pascals performances are noted for their pacing, energy and subtlety. A web of sound that delights and fascinates the ear, was The Times verdict of Adèss fizzing curtain-raiser, a Hallé commission for the celebratory opening of The Bridgewater Hall when he was the orchestras Composer in Residence. Bergs stunning music drawn from his opera, Lulu, is all but a symphony in name, including at its heart the song of the enigmatic protagonist herself, as much a victim as femme fatale, which will be sung by Vera-Lotte Boecker. From the previous generation of Viennese masters, Mahlers First Symphony reflects his vision of a symphony embracing the world: from the sounds of nature and peasant dances, to folksongs, military and hunting calls and a funeral march.
