Details

The Friel Sisters return to Celtic Connections to celebrate the launch of their long-awaited new album. Anna, Sheila and Clare, born and brought up as proud members of the Donegal diaspora in Glasgow, have remained deeply connected to their Donegal roots, playing a rich blend of music interspersed with songs, many from their family repertoire.

Featuring Anna Friel (flute/whistle/vocals), Sheila Friel (uilleann pipes/flute/whistle/vocals), Clare Friel (fiddle/whistle/vocals), Cathal Ó Curráin (bouzouki/vocals) and Marty Barry (guitar/vocals), The Friel Sisters have performed in various venues and festivals all over the world and deliver performances full of energy, heart and warmth.

Join veteran performers and R.T.E. Radio 1 Folk Award nominees Nuala Kennedy and Eamon O' Leary for an engaging evening of soulful Irish ballads as they present a timeless selection of stories of the sea, of love and courtship, of work and ritual, of emigration, of war and peace.

"The sublime, effortless duet of Kennedy and O’Leary is the real draw here" says Songlines Magazine. Their debut duo album HYDRA takes its name from the Greek Island where they recorded in 2024.
