Turn Again Theatre, Holmfirth, are delighted to have secured the rights to this iconic and emotive play.
It is 1942 and in a war-torn provincial theatre, an aging actor, known to his loyal acting company as "Sir, is struggling to cling onto his sanity and complete his 227th performance of King Lear. It is down to Norman, Sir's devoted dresser, to ensure that, in spite of everything, the show goes on. For sixteen years Norman has been there to fix Sir's wig, massage his ego, remind him of his opening lines and provide the sound effects in the storm scene.
The Dresser is a funny, beautifully observed portrait of a shabby backstage ego at odds with the glamour and greatness of his presence on stage; and the man who sacrifices his own life to keep him going.
Fresh from a UK tour, starring Matthew Kelly and Julian Clary, this dramatic production is an evocative, affectionate and hilarious portrayal of back stage life and is considered one of the most acclaimed dramas of modern theatre.
