Details

Neo Vilakazi presents Shona The Musical Choir which is an African/Scottish choir based in Edinburgh, presenting original songs from African composer and playwright, Neo Vilakazi, who lives and works in Scotland. Shona, is as Scottish a name as you can find, but is also a tribal name in Africa. In this concert performance the voices of Africa and Scotland blend in the richest of harmonies, with an eclectic western twist, akin to Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Paul Simon’s Graceland album. The music is inspired by historical events and the socio-political turmoil of Robert Mugabe’s rule of Zimbabwe, and comes from Neo’s work in progress - Shona the Musical - a cross-cultural love story that transcends racial barriers. Performed by supremely talented artists, the vocals and dancing of Shona The Musical Choir have been described as ‘simply stunning’ by The Scotsman. Don’t miss this critically acclaimed show first performed at the 2021 Edinburgh International Festival where it sold out way in advance - hurry and get your tickets!

“Vilakazi’s lyrics and composition is varied, joyous and breathtaking. Each piece of music has its own energy and is met with equal praise by the audience’s echoing applause” - Musical Theatre Review
