This week, Scott’s Jazz Club resident double bassist brings the bass front and centre to celebrate the oeuvre of jazz giant Charles Mingus. In this special performance, Rohan will lead his Irish Quintet in an exploration of Mingus's iconic compositions, contrasting selections from classic record “Mingus Ah Um” with much deeper cuts.
Derry-based Rohan Armstrong is one of Ireland’s most respected jazz musicians, and has held the position of resident bassist at Scott’s since the launch of the club. A frequent sideman to the finest in Irish jazz, this concert will feature Rohan as bandleader, channeling the singular genius of Mingus.
Rohan will be joined by Cathal Roche (baritone and alto saxophone /bass clarinet), Colm O’Hara (trombone), Scott Flanigan (piano), and Andrew McCoubrey (drums).
