Details

Scotland’s iconic landscapes and rugged coastlines have been shaped by the elements over countless millennia. The rocks beneath our feet hold the secrets of our planet’s past. They are our foundation, influencing our culture and legends, and provide endless opportunities for enjoyment and discovery. The Scottish Geology Festival 2022 will tell the stories of Scotland’s rocks and landscapes through a programme of activities during September and October. Events will range from coastal walks and fossil hunting, to online and in-person talks. You will explore extinct volcanoes in Edinburgh and the UNESCO Global Geopark in the North West Highlands. You’ll encounter evidence of ancient tropical seas and coral reefs in Fife, and learn how the ice age helped shaped Scotland’s incredible landforms. Geology isn’t just a thing of the past, but a tool for exploring our future.
