Roy Returns to New Mills following this years outstanding evening

The legendary Chubby Brown may not be everyone's cup of tea but a lot of people like tea. Chubby came from a tough start in life to become one of the most successful comedians in the world. Chubby's real name is Royston Vasey which is the name of the village in the popular T.V. series "The League of Gentlemen" which highlights the respect that modern writers and comedians have for him.

After a spell in the merchant navy Roy decided to better himself and learnt to play ukulele, piano and drums. "I tried the trumpet but it gave me toothache!"

He joined a band which because of his natural comedy talent evolved into a double act "Alcock and Brown", inspired by the famous British aviators, which spawned his famous pilot headgear. When Chubby eventually went solo he met Bernard Manning at Jollees nightclub in Stoke, who told him "you're a great blue comic son, keep it up" and he later met Les Dawson who advised him "If you stop this effin' and jeffin' you'll get your own T.V. show" Chubby's T.V. career was negated by his highly successful 27 videos (now available in DVD form,) and he also starred in his own hilarious feature film/movie U.F.O. in 1997. In 2002, one of Roy's Australian tours was held up due to visa problems and Roy took the opportunity to visit his doctor with a throat problem. Tragically he was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo severe treatment as well as a major operation. Thanks to fantastic medical staff and a brilliant surgeon Chubby came through it and he has since donated thousands of pounds to cancer charities particularly "Zoe's Place" which is a baby hospice based in Middlesbrough with branches in Liverpool and Coventry. So if you fancy a good night out, a good laugh and you like tea, have an evening with the legend who says "I've never had stars in my eyes, I just like working and making people laugh"this
