Three giants of the Scots trad music scene come together for a special evening of music for our Short Course concert at Sabhal Mor Ostaig.

Perthshire-born Ross Ainslie is one of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians and composers, playing pipes, whistles and cittern. He is renowned for his highly acclaimed solo material, and as a skilled performer and prolific collaborator who performs regularly with bands Treacherous Orchestra, Salsa Celtica, Dougie Maclean, Ali Hutton, Capercaillie, Shooglenifty and Jarlath Henderson to name a handful.

Described as "one of the most emotionally affecting singers of his generation", Dr Alasdair C Whyte balances his academic career with a career as a singer-songwriter, writer and presenter. Alasdair was awarded the Men’s Gold Medal for unaccompanied solo singing at the Royal National Mòd at the age of 19 and has recorded original and traditional songs on various albums to high critical acclaim.

Hamish Napier is a Scottish folk multi-instrumentalist and composer inspired by the heritage and nature of his native landscape of Strathspey. Hamish, plays wooden flutes, whistles, piano and sings. His music is innovative, incorporating sounds from jazz and classical styles, while also celebrating and respecting Scotland’s rich musical heritage. Humorous, engaging and heart-warming, Hamish’s performances are often interdisciplinary, incorporating poems and stories about nature and folklore.
