Roma Triumphans

Details

Costanzi Consort's summer concert, Roma Triumphans (Rome Triumphant), will be an exciting showcase of wonderful eighteenth-century sacred music by Giovanni Battista Casali (1715-1792), juxtaposed with music by his contemporary Giovanni Costanzi (our namesake) and the Novarese nun Isabella Leonarda. Ahead of our landmark Casali recording project in September, the performance will include select works from his vast output (most of which is almost completely unknown and scarcely ever performed), all transcribed from original manuscript sources. Ranging from small-scale unaccompanied four-part motets through to a double-choir Ave Maria andconcertato settings of Vespers psalms with instrumental accompaniment, this uplifting feast of sacred music will transport you to the vast churches and broad sunny piazzas of eighteenth-century Rome.
