Details
The choir closes its season with a concert centred around Mozart’s Requiem, widely considered one of the masterworks of the choral canon. The Requiem movements were some of the last bits of music Mozart ever wrote and it remained unfinished upon his early death in 1791. Its commission, composition and completion are shrouded in mystery, controversy and intrigue and a real whodunnit tale. Sittng alongside will be Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer for soprano solo, choir and organ or orchestra, written in 1844 during Mendelssohn’s eighth visit to England - a trip Mendelssohn described as ‘crazy, absolutely crazy’. A handful of smaller Classical motets will complete the programme.
