Details

Paisley, Scotland, 1697. Thirty-five people accused of witchcraft. Seven condemned to death. Six strangled and burned at the stake. All accused by eleven-year-old Christian Shaw. Join award-winning Scottish author Victoria Williamson for the launch of her latest book reimagining the story of Christian Shaw and the Bargarran Witches. With discussions on local history and the thread industry in Paisley, as well as a look at the history of witchcraft in Scotland and the campaign to pardon those accused and condemned under the 1563-1736 Witchcraft Act, this event will blend past and present, fiction and fact, to create a thrilling new story from a famous local tale. Victoria will be joined in conversation by Zoe Venditozzi from the Witches of Scotland campaign, and Clarke Wallace from Paisley Thread Mill Museum.
