Details

Surreal Masquerades _is the title of Parvis Hejazi's debut at 1901 Arts Club. The award-winning, London-based German pianist will take you on a journey from the passion and sumptuous sound worlds of Liszt's most poetic etude _Il lamento _to the playfulness of Benjamin Britten's _Holiday Diary, which the composer himself referred to as a set of impressions of a boy's pre-war seaside holiday.

The first half of the recital culminates in Robert Schumann's glorious Faschingsschwank aus Wien, again a set of images, but this time from a carnival party in Vienna. We are immersed into a masquerade of dances, marches, poetic Schumannesque sound worlds, lyrical melodies, outpourings of high emotion and even the Marseillaise, in reference to the movement for German unity, inspired by the ideals of the French Revolution.

After the interval, the programme ends with Prokofiev's surreal and dark 8th sonata, the third and longest of his "War Trilogy". Parvis Hejazi will curate the programme and guide his audience through what will be a young artist's firework of sublime poetry, intense passion, and sparkling virtuosity.
