Details

Haydn's Nelson Mass is a work of supreme skill and heart. Its genesis in 1798, during the Napoleonic Wars, has some fascinating parallels with today - and not just the ones you might immediately think of! Coupled with Bach's glorious Magnificat, this is a fascinating programme of music, giving insight into the extraordinary experiences both composers had writing these pieces. Ed Goater, our Musical Director, will give a short talk before the concert in which he will describe the connection between the two works in more detail (please take your seat by 7:10 pm if you wish to listen to Ed's talk). The programme will start with a solo organ rendition of Bach's Fantasia in G major, performed by organist Robert Langston (who will also provide organ continuo for the choral works). Robert has had a life-long and world-wide career in music. Further details about him will be found in the concert programme.
