Over the past 4 months, 5 aspiring playwrights from Leicester have been working with experienced playwrights and dramaturgs as part of the Neighbour Hubs Writers Scheme, and we are now delighted to showcase their new work as rehearsed readings at Curve.
The project set out to discover and support new playwrights from the city wards of Saffron, New Parks, Evington, Braunstone, Highfields/St Mathews, providing a platform for stories that speak directly to our communities. The successful applicants took part in a series of expert workshops and 1-1 mentoring sessions to support them in developing a new short play.
The resulting plays range from stories of cultural tension and love, all the way to the pitfalls of multimillion dollar art deals. They are being staged as rehearsed readings with a professional cast and directed by Hannah Stone, with the new writers participating in the rehearsal process.
The short plays presented in this showcase are: 7 Days by Hashim Hassan Sankofia’s Love by Imani Ahiroroteyi Wenham For da Vinci by Luqman Osman The News Where You Are by Matt Middleton Welcome Home by Parisha P.
