Mozart Requiem

Details

Formed in 1965 to raise funds for the York Minster Appeal, the Chapter House Choir continues to build on its reputation as one of the North of England’s finest amateur chamber choirs. We are a progressive and dynamic ensemble that regularly commissions new music and seeks to programme accessible and beautiful yet challenging programmes from the whole range of the choral repertoire.

York Railway Institute Band was founded by Noah Bruce, its leader for 31 years. Originally named Chaucer Street Mission Band and later known as York and District Mission and Temperance Band, York Excelsior Brass Band, York Home Guard Band and Ebor Excelsior Silver Band, it took on the name of York Railway Institute Band after allying itself to York Railway Institute following a merger of the Ebor Excelsior Silver Band and the York City Band in 1952 - the majority of members being railwaymen at that time. The current band can therefore claim a heritage going back to 1883.

The centre piece of the concert programme will be the sublime Mozart Requiem arranged for brass band and choir by Robert Webb. The programme will also feature solo performances by band and choir to include -

Bruckner: Ave Maria Francis-Hoad: Bogoroditse Devo Macmillan: Who Shall Separate Us Bruckner: Ecce Sacerdos
