Mother Tongues: Talking to Children in Minoritised Languages in Scotland and Wales

Details

Tamar Williams and Ishbel McFarlane are storytellers and mothers who revel in and wrestle with their Welsh and Scots languages. What does it mean to be a mother in or out of your mother tongue? What are the benefits and challenges of telling children - and everyone else - stories in minoritised languages? This event will be a chance to reflect on the language choices we make when we make art for children.

Joined by Naomi Doyle, Tamar’s co-creator, we will hear about their experience of making Mali a’r Môr / Mali & the Sea, performed earlier in the day, while Ishbel will discuss her Early Years residency at The Village. Suitable for all ages.
