Live and Late - Beethoven

Details

Our popular Live and Late series returns to the atmospheric Minster Crossing for Beethoven’s hauntingly beautiful String Quartet No.15 in A minor, Op. 132.

Composed in 1825, just two years before his death, Beethoven occupied his last few years exclusively with the intimate and exacting genre of the string quartet. At the centre of this completely idiosyncratic quartet is one of the most famous and deeply personal movements in all of the quartet literature, the slow movement “Hymn of Thanksgiving to the Divinity from a convalescent, in the Lydian mode.”

Our late night concerts have a unique atmosphere which lends itself to this kind of intimate, magical music making. Book early to avoid disappointment!
