How can we use fossil pollen and place names to tell us about the history of Leicestershire’s woodlands? This talk will explore woodlands in Leicestershire over 10,000 years, looking at how our landscape has changed over time by integrating fossil pollen records and place name evidence of past woodland cover. Hannah Sellers is a PhD student in the School of Geography, Geology and the Environment at the University of Leicester. She is an ecologist who is currently doing a PhD studying woodland change in Leicestershire using palaeoecological (fossil pollen), historical (placenames) and modern ecological (botanical surveys) data to examine resilient woodlands for future conservation.
