JS Bach: St Matthew Passion

Bishop's Stortford Choral Society is joined by internationally acclaimed tenor soloist, James Gilchrist, who takes on the central role of the Evangelist for the choir's spring performance of JS Bach's magnificent sacred oratorio, the St Matthew Passion. Leading bass soloist, David Shipley, sings the part of Jesus in this powerful musical setting of Christ's last days, including the Last Supper, the betrayal, the crucifixion and the burial. Four other fantastic professional soloists complete the exciting vocal line up. Choir and soloists will be accompanied by Musica Donum Dei, a period orchestra playing traditional Baroque instruments, allowing the audience to hear the work much as it would have sounded in the eighteenth century.

Please note that the performance will commence at the earlier time of 7pm. Wine and soft drinks will be served in the interval and cash donations are welcome.
