Details

Join Edinburgh based guide, researcher and writer Jean Bareham on a walking tour of Collective and Calton Hill, Edinburgh.

Inspired by the themes of Elisa Giardina Papa’s "U Scantu": A Disorderly Tale, the walk will consider stories of women who have been seen as outsiders, and persecuted for their difference – reflecting on stories and histories of Calton Hill and the wider city.

Taking in key viewpoints from Calton Hill, the walk will include aspects of the history of witchcraft and of witch trials in Edinburgh and wider Scotland; and – in relation to U Scantu – will reflect on the importance of the role of such women in helping their communities to overcome fear – and to bring psychological healing.

Meeting Point: City Dome Gallery, Collective – by East Gate.

Access notes: the walking tour will be at a gentle pace, with several stops for conversation along the way. The walk will be mostly on paths, there will be some steps involved. The 90 minute walk will finish close to Collective on Calton Hill. Toilet facilities available at Collective.
