A one-day course offering an introduction to the basic technical aspects of blacksmithing. Participants will learn how to make a fire poker from a piece of mild steel square bar which they can take away with them at the end of the day. Through making the poker, participants will be introduced to a diverse range of blacksmithing techniques including drawing out, hammering and bending as well as how to use and regulate a forge.

Our courses are open to all levels of ability and experience - beginners are very welcome as well as those who want to build on existing skills or try something new. If you have any suggestions, questions or requirements relating to accessibility, please get in touch and we will make every effort to support you to visit.

The centre poker coils off to the maker’s left in a curve. The poker on the right has an ornate looped handle and is flattened at the end.]
