I Hear You

‘I Hear You’ is a comedy drama that takes a humorous look at situations that can happen to anyone and asks who is listening and who is not listening. It is full of characters who listen and don’t listen in different ways. Every member of the audience will find a character to identify with, from Dave in the radio station to the staff of a care home. ‘I Hear You’ is a new play written by local playwright Emma Gardner for Didcot Phoenix Drama Group. The play was created by Emma Gardner and local actor/director Maria Xucla-Lerma out of conversations on car journeys to and from drama rehearsals. We discovered we had both witnessed situations in our daily lives where people weren’t listening properly to others. This got us thinking about the consequences of this for those who don’t listen well and for those who go unheard. We thought this would be a great subject for a play!
