Homeboy Sandman & Edan

Having put their deft minds together on their recent collab album Humble Pi on Stones Throw, we are delighted to bring two cult alt rap figures in Homeboy Sandman and Edan from New York to The Jazz Cafe. As two artists that profess to come from the same pseudo-traditionalist school of style and execution, Homeboy Sandman and Edan are somewhat mavericks of modern hip-hop. However, while Homeboy Sandman’s release record has been fairly busy in recent years, it took producer Edan has remained somewhat of an enigma since the late noughties. In fact, it took an approach from the rapper to spark the DC producer back into life, which led to the two putting their minds together for Humble Pi. With the deft and quizzical rhymes of Sandman melding comfortably with Edan’s old-school, psychedelic soundscapes, we’re left with one the most intriguing collaborations to come out in recent years. Opening the show are London based quintet Third Estate. Combining high-grade MCs with live musicianship, they delivers slick grooves and serious lyricism. No two shows are the same for this exciting new collective, blurring the boundaries between hip-hop, jazz and neo-soul.
