Details

Design and paint a pattern for a home textile! Under the guidance and expertise of textile pattern-maker Sarah Campbell, you’ll leave this workshop with enough hand painted cloth to perk up your home and make an accessory of your choice – a cushion or wall-hanging.

In this one-day workshop, participants will start by playing on paper with guidance on how to consider shape, colour, motifs and form when designing a pattern for a home textile. Sarah will guide the small group (maximum 10 participants) through understanding mark making, colour balance and tonal contrast. You’ll be encouraged to consider your own colour harmonies and spend time experimenting with colourfast textile inks on fabric.

People of all abilities and skill levels are welcome and there’ll be no pressure to produce finished work – it’s a day to enjoy an inspiring time and to learn and practice new skills to take home. All equipment will be provided including a selection of fabric paints, paper, fabric to practice and one fabric piece for the finished piece but participants are advised bring a bag to take your work home with you. Entry to the current exhibition is also included.
