Three Wheel Drive

Three Wheel Drive is a short, honest documentary film about a group of friends on a bothy trip in the Highlands of Scotland. The team is made up of three riders with disabilities and two non-disabled riders.

Our film aims to challenge perspectives on what adventure is and who it is for. Bothies – simple stone buildings left open for weary travellers – are not designed with disability in mind, like much of society. We show how working together to learn to overcome access issues and challenges in a tougher environment leads to strengthening people’s problem-solving abilities through the rest of their lives.

Three Wheel Drive aims to inspire others – both disabled and non-disabled people – to undertake their own adventures and “find their Everest”; to find their personal balance between comfort and discomfort that gives them the confidence to push their own boundaries. The film explores the highs, lows, humour, and frustrations that such a challenge creates.

By showing what can be possible for people with disabilities, with teamwork and support from friends, we have the opportunity to help facilitate a change in how society as a whole looks at people with disabilities.

The film was produced by Neil Russell and Rosie Baxendine of the Adaptive Riders Collective, a non-profit organisation that supports people with physical disabilities to get out into nature using off-road adaptive cycles. Directed by Stefan Morrocco, Three Wheel Drive beautifully captures Scotland, the power of teamwork, and the changing landscape of people with disabilities finding ways to engage more with the outdoors and all that Scotland has to offer.
