Details

Join us for this wonderful programme which explores some of the great works by Mozart and Haydn.

Sturm und Drang (Storm and Stress) was a proto-Romantic movement in German literature and music in the mid to late 18th century. It saw composers expressing the extremes of emotion within their compositions. Much like other artists of the period, both Mozart and Haydn wrote works that feel within this movement’s aesthetics.

Perhaps the most well-known work performed in this concert is Mozart’s Symphony No. 25, a thrilling piece that became very popular after its use in the opening of the Oscar-winning biopic of Mozart’s life, Amadeus.

It is said that Mozart was inspired when writing this Symphony by another piece in our programme, Haydn’s Symphony No. 39. Both symphonies have an energy and excitement to them that will keep the listener on the edge of their seat.

For this concert, the Orchestra is joined and directed by the outstanding and esteemed conductor and instrumentalist Christian Zacharias, renowned throughout his career for capturing with integrity and brilliance the essence of the music he performs.
