Details

For the past three years, rising saxophonist David Kayode has been cultivating this project, hand-picking members to create its distinctive, groove-driven sound. Growing up in NW London, the influence of carnival rhythms is just as prevalent as that of the west-African musicians he learned alongside. He shows shades of inspiration from bands he has played in - Osibisa, Carroll Thompson, Moses Boyd, Shabaka Hutchings. However, his music diverges, unique to his own experience, emerging proudly in energising dance-grooves and jazz that embodies the resilience of the young African diaspora living in the UK. His music in his own words: “You might laugh, you might cry, but, above all, you must DANCE!”.
