A & M studios in California was the birthplace of many timeless classic albums. In 1971 Joni Mitchell's Blue and Carole King's Tapestry, which were recorded in adjacent studios while just down the hall, James Taylor was recording Sweet Baby James, and the three friends shared session players and added harmonies to each other's albums.

Here at The Brunswick in February 2022, Lucy Pickering and her band Court & Spark will recreate the best of Joni and Carole, in an evening of Laurel Canyon highlights such as Carey, Youve Got A Friend, River and I Feel The Earth Move.

Lucy Pickering's Court & Spark was originally conceived to celebrate and explore the songs of Joni Mitchell, bringing together some of Sussex's finest musicians in a fruitful jazz/folk/pop fusion collaboration. Lucy's vocals at the piano perfectly pay tribute to the singer-songwriter stylings of the early 1970's, and the band add a West Coast vibe recalling Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Russ Kunkel and Tom Scott's LA Express. This gig will move audiences who already love these two iconic artists, as well as inspiring those discovering them fresh today.
