Come & Sing Brahms A German Requiem

Details

Join KCS to explore Brahms’ much loved choral masterpiece led by our talented Musical Director, Andrew Griffiths with accompanist Gavin Roberts. This superbly tender work was inspired by the deaths of two people dear to Brahms, his mentor Robert Schumann and his mother. With text derived from Luther’s German Bible, rather than the traditional Latin, Ein Deutches Requiem bypasses standard liturgy with its fearsome Dies Irae. Rather than dwelling on the judgement of the dead, Brahms is concerned with consoling the living. It is this spiritual empathy that makes what he called his “human Requiem” so moving for us today. If you love this marvellous music, and would like to know it better, or if you just want to give singing with KCS a try, buy a ticket now. If you don’t have your own score, we will have copies to lend you. We will refresh you with tea, coffee and cake in the interval. There will be more tempting cake on sale, and a raffle.
