Barbed Wire and Teddy Bears by Karen Forbes directed by Robert Little 14 - 16 March, 7.30pm. Matinee 16 March 2.30pmSomewhere beyond the pale Even in the darkest times, children will always be children

It’s 1940 in Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands. Meet Tommo, Queenie, Roy and Gwen: four children growing up on an island occupied by enemy forces. Rather than dwelling on fear and hardship, these are days of fun, mischief, antics… children so preoccupied with daydreaming and outwitting Herr Inspektor of schools, they forget to acknowledge Adolf’s birthday! So begins a five year poignant journey of what it means to be a child living in a warzone. Director Robert Little joins forces with local writer Karen Forbes (Edith – In the Beginning, Sewell Barn 2022) with this new ensemble play, exploring childhood, family and friendship. In partnership with the University of East Anglia. Proceeds of this single-week, ‘black box’ production will be in aid of an external charity (to be announced). We are grateful to the play’s author Karen Forbes for waiving her fees as a contribution to that cause
