Balance, Projected - An Exhibition of Original Paintings by John Cummins

‘Balance, Projected’ is a series of process based abstract oil paintings. The work involves hanging and projecting bold shapes in space in an impulsive manner, never allowing the final image to be considered, only attempting to balance each shape against the evolving image in each moment.

The works attempt to focus on instinct and bypass the artists bias and ‘knowledge’ and are considered complete when the balancing act feels resolved.

Balance in this case is instinctive and immeasurable but seems to rely on form, colour theory and position in the frame.

The works share a consistency of texture, born from the layering and scraping of paint with sharp, taped edges.
