Bab L’Bluz brings the pulsating spirit of musical revolution to Celtic Connections 2023. Formed in Marrakesh, this Moroccan-French outfit are headed by dynamic frontwoman, Yousra Mansour, whose soaring vocals declare that “more than anything, we’re a rock band”.

Nayda – the title of their debut album – means both “rise up!” and “let’s party!” in the Arabic dialect of darija. The band are dedicated to reclaiming the blues for North Africa and their songs tackle themes such as injustice, motherhood and ancestry. Drawing on a dizzying range of styles including rock, blues, Gnawa, Chaabi and Afrobeat, their music defies easy definition and their live shows are electrifying.

Irish singer and guitarist Síomha (pronounced She-vah) dances the line between folk, jazz and neo-soul effortlessly. She takes audiences on an unexpected and unforgettable journey with her soulful melodies. Her debut album Infinite (in Irish and English) was produced by Grammy-nominated Tyler Duncan. It features an all-star line-up including Joe Dart (Vulfpeck), Louis Cato (Bobby McFerrin/ Snarky Puppy) and violinist Jeremy Kittel (Bela Fleck/ Chris Thile).
