Formed in the early 1980s by Belfast-born flute player Frankie Kennedy, and fiddler and singer Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Altan began a journey that took them all over the world. The band soon established itself at the forefront of Irish traditional music and now, 35 years on, Altan has achieved legendary status in a genre shaped by the band’s influence and genius. Audiences from Ireland to Japan have embraced their heart-warming, dynamic live performances and their exquisitely produced, award-winning recordings.
