AFRIT is a powerful demon in Arabian myths...
NEBULA is an interstellar cloud of dust...
AFRIT NEBULA were co-founded in 2014 by Elaine and Ken Edwards with Jamie Harris. After going underground during the pandemic the band have re-emerged in the past year with a refreshed lineup. Drummer Yair Katz is helping propel them into new musical explorations.
Taking inspiration from alt-jazz, alt-rock, Middle Eastern and African traditions, and from the dancers and film-makers they've sometimes collaborated with, the band's highly original music encompasses songs, improvisation and pure sound, moments of beauty and pulsing rhythm.
At Brighton Fringe 2022 Afrit Nebula will be launching their second full-length album, INALIENABLE.
"Is it jazz? Is it rock? Is it ethnic music from the Balkans, Cuba, Turkey or a vibe from outer space?... What’s special about this trio ... is that they subvert the concept of genre while managing to explore distinctive musical identities through adventurous improvisation - and people can dance while they’re doing it."
