John Weaver Competition

John Weaver known as The Shrewsbury Dancing Master is often credited as the father of English ballet.

A former teacher at Shrewsbury school, he synthesised commedia dellarte with French baroque dance to create a new style of English narrative ballet.

Dance is now one of the most popular activities at Shrewsbury, with over sixty girls and boys taking weekly classes in ballet, tap, commercial and contemporary dance.

The John Weaver Festival includes a dance showcase and a competition open to dance schools from across the West Midlands
