Where?
Meet at Wanstead Underground Station. The walk will finish at the Tea Hut, just by the Perch Pond. The station is a short walk (0.6 km) from the park.Once the site of one of Englands grandest houses, you will be able to discover more about the history and ecology of Wanstead Park, which still retains a 17th Century lake cascade unique to London. Its historical significance is complemented by its natural beauty. You may even meet Nuru, Taylor and Veronica! Or at the very least you will discover who they are! Please note the walk will take approximately 90 minutes and is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Footpaths can be quite muddy or uneven in places so appropriate footwear is needed. This walk follows on from a recent fascinating talk at Valentines by local FWP historian Richard Arnopp, about the landscape, history and survival of Wanstead Park, which since 2009 has been on the Heritage At Risk Register. The walk will be led by FWP Chairman Peter Brimson and will take walkers past the lakes, offering insights into many other features of the landscape that would otherwise remain undetected. Though the Temple will not be open on that particular date, it nonetheless remains an outstanding sight as it has just been repaired and repainted. Work has been undertaken to stabilise the Grotto building and the route will take us past this romantic ruin of the 2nd Earl's boathouse.Entrances to/Exits from the Park
