Introduction to Cyanotype Printmaking

First developed in Victorian times, cyanotype is a form of photographic printmaking using chemicals which respond to ultraviolet light. In this one day introductory workshop Annie Butler will give you a basic introduction including:
A practical hands-on activity, creating a sample cyanotype using different materials and hand-drawn images.
Exposing with the UV light.
Introducing the idea of double exposure.
Washing the print to develop the image.
Developing your own cyanotype (with an option to use photographic images).
How to do stepped timing to work out exposure times.
Discussing the possibilities of using sunlight.
Clearing up and care of UV unit.
By the end of the course students will have 3 or 4 cyanotype prints.
The course content will be supported with a handout.
Please feel free to bring along any images and ideas you might like to use. If you want to use a photographic image it should (ideally) be a high contrast, black and white, negative image. All printing materials will be supplied.
