What happens when we reinvent the folk traditions we’ve inherited? Drawing on folk music, storytelling, ritual, landscape and working-class and diasporic cultures, we’ll explore how poetry can reclaim, challenge and reimagine ideas of “folk culture”.

An apt theme for this harvest season, poets are encouraged to bring their own folk traditions to discuss.Rough schedule5:00-5:15pm: welcome, time to grab a drink5:15-6:00pm: warm-up exercise & discussion6:00-6:45pm: reading, discussing, writing6:45-7:00pm: break7:00-7:30pm: reading, discussing, writing7:30-8:00pm: sharing, workshopping, editingRuth is a London-based poet & tutor originally from the West Midlands.

She believes everyone can write poetry & is passionate about making the community more inclusive & accessible.

Ruth’s first pamphlet ‘The Thought Sits With Me’ was published by Nine Pens in 2022.

She edited Morocco Bound’s first anthology of poetry, ‘Slow Progress’ in 2024.

She has placed & been shortlisted for several prizes in the last few years, including the Passionfruit, New Poet’s, Plough and Prole Prizes.Presented by Morocco Bound.This is a 16+ event
