The Solihull Approach is an evidence-based parenting framework focused on emotional health, supporting parents of children aged 0-18 years through containment, reciprocity, and behaviour management.
Core Principles:
The approach combines psychological theory with practical applications to foster understanding between children and caregivers:
Containment: Understanding and managing intense emotions (like anxiety or anger) so a child feels safe, helping them to "think" rather than just react.
Reciprocity: Building positive, two-way, "serve and return" interactions between child and caregiver, fostering secure attachment and repairing relationships.
Behaviour as Communication: Interpreting a child's challenging behaviour as an attempt to communicate underlying feelings, needs, or distress. This course starts Friday 18th September 26 09:30-11:30 and runs for 10 weeks. This course will not run during the school holidays.
