Join Blackburn Symphony Orchestra for a spectacular Autumn afternoon Concert on Sunday 29th November 2026 at 3.00pm, hosted at Accrington Town Hall, Accrington.Under the baton of Richard Howarth, and led by Helen Tonge, the orchestra presents an enchanting programme of sparkling overture, virtuosic concerto, and powerful symphonic drama.The afternoon opens with Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream Overture, a magical masterpiece that captures the wonder, mischief, and romance of Shakespeare's beloved play with breath taking brilliance and imagination.We then turn to Dvorak's Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 53, a richly expressive work that blends lyrical beauty with dazzling virtuosity. Filled with Bohemian warmth, vibrant rhythms, and soaring melodies, it stands as one of the great concertos of the Romantic era.The concert concludes with Amy Beach's Gaelic Symphony, a landmark work and the first symphony composed and published by an American woman. Inspired by Irish folk melodies, it is a sweeping and colourful symphony, combining Celtic charm with lush orchestral textures and powerful emotional depth.
