Lecture: Newport Ship ~ A Remarkable Discovery

In 2002, during excavation and construction work for the Riverfront Arts Centre in Newport, archaeologists made an extraordinary discovery.

Buried deep in the mud of the River Usk lay the remarkably preserved remains of a fifteenth-century sailing ship.The discovery of the Newport Medieval Ship [https://www.newportship.org/]was internationally acclaimed as one of the most significant finds of its kind.

Since then, an ambitious archaeological project has worked to record, conserve and understand the vessel, using innovative techniques and some of the most advanced archaeological recording methods available.In this fascinating talk, Jeff Grosvenor, volunteer guide and committee member at the Newport Medieval Ship Centre, will take us through the story of the ship since its discovery.
