Good: a Tragedy

Good: A Tragedy follows John Halder, a liberal-minded university professor in 1930s Germany, whose ordinary life becomes increasingly entangled with the Nazi regime.

As his career advances, Halder makes a series of compromises, confronting the devastating consequences of passivity, ambition and the gradual normalisation of evil. The play is a powerful examination of how an apparently decent person can become involved in something profoundly evil, and was first performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1981.
