This short circular walk from Caswell Bay explores one of Gowers most sheltered and historic wooded valleys.Starting near the beach, the route leaves the open coast and enters the quiet greenery of Caswell Valley, where a small stream winds beneath mature woodland and steep valley sides.
The path climbs gently into Bishops Wood, an ancient woodland rich with birdsong, moss-covered banks, and twisting tree roots.Hidden among the trees lies the medieval St Peters Chapel, a small and atmospheric ruin linked to centuries of local worship and pilgrimage.
Nearby is the holy well, once believed to have healing properties and still tucked quietly into the woodland setting.Further along, glimpses of secluded homes appear between the trees, along with the distinctive Roundhouse, an unusual circular building hidden within the woodland landscape. The walk will also include a number of peaceful stopping points where the group can pause to sing together, making use of the valleys natural acoustics and tranquil atmosphere. The route returns to Caswell Beach, combining woodland, history, music, and coastal scenery in a gentle and reflective walk.Walk leader Kate Davies has been leading community choirs, singing events and holidays in Swansea, Wales and Internationally for over 20 years.
Kate's passion is to make music accessible to everyone, whatever their musical background, and to build singing communities around Swansea and beyond.
